CLAAS builds tractors (Arion, Axion, Xerion), combines (Lexion, Trion) and forage harvesters (Jaguar). The engines in its current large tractors and harvesters come from other makers: FPT, John Deere Power Systems (DPS), Mercedes-Benz, MAN and Cummins, depending on the model family. So a CLAAS diagnostic tool has to deal with CLAAS’s own control units and with someone else’s engine controller. Below: what dealers use, what owners and independent shops can get, aftermarket coverage and owner checks.
Quick answer: which CLAAS diagnostic tool do you need?
- Full dealer-level diagnostics: the CLAAS system, CDS. Your dealer has it, and in the US farmers and independent shops can buy access under a 2023 right-to-repair agreement.
- Reading error codes yourself: the terminal in the cab, plus the free CLAAS connect app on machines registered to it.
- Letting the dealer see faults remotely: CLAAS Remote Service, with your consent.
- Independent workshop: the CLAAS RMI portal (repair information, WebTIC and WebSi licenses, diagnosis units for newer types), or a multi-brand tool such as Jaltest AGV or TEXA that lists your model.
CLAAS CDS: the dealer diagnostic software
CLAAS has referred to the CLAAS diagnostic software its dealers use as CDS. For example, its Axion 900 product pages listed “remote diagnostics with CDS” as part of the TELEMATICS package. CLAAS of America has spelled it out as CLAAS Diagnostic System, for example in its 2014 telematics launch. As with other OEM systems, the software works with CLAAS hardware; CLAAS’s RMI portal calls these “diagnosis units (hardware and software)”.
US owners and independent shops: in June 2023, CLAAS of America signed a right-to-repair memorandum of understanding with the American Farm Bureau Federation. It says farmers and independent repair facilities are to have electronic access, on fair and reasonable terms, to the CDS diagnostic tool. The tool is to be available to buy from authorized repair facilities and/or CLAAS. DTN’s report adds that the agreement reconfirms the option to lease diagnostic tools from CLAAS dealers.
CLAAS does not publish a price or a current version number on the pages we checked, so ask your dealer for a quote. Laptops sold online with “CDS” preinstalled are not one of those channels.
Two other names come up around CDS:
- WebTIC and WebSi: CLAAS calls these its service applications. Independent workshops can license them through the RMI portal, together with the PartsDoc spare-parts catalog (see below).
- Remote Service: with your consent, the machine sends data straight to your CLAAS service partner. CLAAS says fault codes, system messages and upcoming maintenance are recorded and analyzed in real time. Only data on the machine’s condition, performance, diagnostics and operating conditions is sent, not yield data. You decide whether to use it when you buy the machine. It now sits inside CLAAS connect.
Independent shops: the CLAAS RMI portal
Under Regulation (EU) 167/2013, CLAAS supplies repair and maintenance information (RMI) and on-board diagnosis access to independent workshops through an online RMI portal. After a one-off paid registration you can:
- buy licenses online for WebSi, WebTIC and the PartsDoc parts catalog;
- look up machine history and training documents;
- get diagnosis units (hardware and software) for types newly approved from July 1, 2021.
The portal’s product list (October 2026) shows documentation for many tractors, balers, mowers, telehandlers and trailers. Diagnosis is ticked for newer types such as the Axion 9, Xerion 12, Axos 3 and the Stage V Nexos/Elios. Older Arion and Axion series show documentation only. Lexion combines and Jaguar forage harvesters do not appear in the list.
The regulation is European. In the US, the route is the 2023 agreement described above. In Canada, ask your CLAAS dealer what access is offered.
Tractors vs combines and forage harvesters
CLAAS tractor diagnostics and harvester diagnostics are two different jobs:
- Tractors (Arion, Axion, Xerion): run through CLAAS’s CEBIS control concept on many models (for example, a 12-inch CEBIS touchscreen on the Arion 5 and 6 CMATIC). Some newer types have diagnosis on the RMI portal.
- Combines (Lexion, Trion) and forage harvesters (Jaguar): extra control units for threshing, chopping and crop flow, and large MAN, Mercedes-Benz or Cummins engines. They are not on the RMI portal list.
- Remote Service spans both. Its 2018 launch covered Lexion and Tucano combines and Xerion and Axion tractors.
Aftermarket tools split them too. Jaltest lists CLAAS tractors and CLAAS harvest equipment under separate coverage areas. Check that your tool covers the right one.
Engines from other makers
| CLAAS model family | Engine maker | Engine |
|---|---|---|
| Arion 5 CMATIC | John Deere Power Systems (DPS) | PowerTech, 4.5 L, 4-cylinder |
| Arion 6 CMATIC | John Deere Power Systems (DPS) | PowerTech, 6.8 L, 6-cylinder |
| Axion 8 CMATIC | FPT | NEF 6.7, 6.7 L, 6-cylinder |
| Axion 9 | FPT | Cursor 9, 8.7 L, 6-cylinder |
| Xerion 5000 / 4500 | Mercedes-Benz | 12.8 L, 6-cylinder |
| Xerion 12 | Mercedes-Benz | About 15.6 L, 6-cylinder |
| Lexion 8000 / 7000 | MAN | D26, D38 or D42 (D42 in the 8800 and 8900; 16.2 L in the 8900) |
| Lexion 6000 | MAN and Cummins | Varies by model |
| Jaguar 900 | MAN and Mercedes-Benz | Varies by model (OM 471 LA listed) |
| Jaguar 1000 | MAN | V12, 24 L |
This is the current range as CLAAS describes it in its 2024–2026 press releases, brochures and product pages. Older machines can differ, so check the engine plate.
Why it matters: a heavy-duty scan tool that knows the engine maker’s controller may read engine codes on a CLAAS. It will not reach the CMATIC transmission, the hydraulics or the harvesting functions. Those need CLAAS-level coverage, from the dealer or from an aftermarket tool that lists your exact model.
Aftermarket CLAAS diagnostic tools
- Jaltest AGV (Cojali): the coverage pages list CLAAS tractors (including Ares, Arion, Atos, Axion, Elios, Nexos and Xerion) and harvest equipment (Avero, Dominator, Jaguar, Lexion, Medion, Mega, Trion, Tucano), broken down by type, with the engine emissions stage on many entries. A US farm-parts retailer lists a full Jaltest AGV kit at $4,795 (October 2026) and asks buyers to confirm fitment first. The standard AGV cable kit sold by Diesel Laptops lists no CLAAS-specific lead (October 2026), so ask which cable your machine needs.
- TEXA: the off-highway setup is the Navigator TXT Multihub 2 interface with IDC6 software. TEXA USA’s 2025 agricultural brochure lists CLAAS among the covered makes, and TEXA’s lead list includes a SAME/DEUTZ/CLAAS self-diagnosis cable (3151/T32A). Check the coverage for your exact model.
- CLAAS connect app: not a scan tool, but it is free and from CLAAS itself. CLAAS says you can use it to read error codes, compare machine parameters and exchange jobs between the farm office and the machine.
If you also run SDF tractors, the same TEXA lead appears in our Deutz-Fahr and Deutz SerDia guide.
Diagnostic ports and cables
CLAAS does not publish one connector for every machine. The socket depends on the family and the year. Aftermarket vendors sell leads that list CLAAS, such as TEXA’s 3151/T32A (listed for SAME, DEUTZ and CLAAS). Before you order, send the tool vendor the model, the year and a photo of the socket, and check the tool’s cable list for your type. For newer tractor types, the RMI portal lists the diagnosis units CLAAS makes available.
Owner checks before you call the dealer
- Record the message. Note what CEBIS (or the terminal on older machines) shows, the hours, and what the machine was doing.
- Check CLAAS connect. If the machine is registered, the app can show error codes. Remote Service, if you agreed to it, may already have sent the fault to your dealer.
- Rule out the basics. Check the battery charge, terminals and ground straps, and any connector disturbed during recent work. Low voltage can make healthy controllers log faults.
- Check filters and fluids. Look at the fuel filter and water separator, the air filter and its pre-cleaner (critical on combines and choppers), and the coolant and oil levels.
- Emissions warnings: treat them as an emissions system service job and book it with your dealer.

Frequently asked questions
What diagnostic software do CLAAS dealers use?
CLAAS dealers use the CLAAS diagnostic system known as CDS. In the US, CLAAS of America’s June 2023 agreement with the American Farm Bureau Federation says farmers and independent shops can buy access to the CDS tool on fair and reasonable terms. Dealers can also diagnose remotely through Remote Service when the owner has agreed to it.
Can I read CLAAS error codes myself?
Yes. The cab terminal shows active messages. CLAAS says its free CLAAS connect app can read error codes on registered machines. For deeper work, an aftermarket tool that lists your model, or your dealer, is the next step.
Does Jaltest work on CLAAS tractors and combines?
Jaltest’s coverage pages list CLAAS tractors (including Arion, Axion and Xerion) and harvest equipment (including Lexion, Trion, Tucano and Jaguar). Confirm your exact type and cable with the reseller.
What engine is in a CLAAS Axion or Arion?
Current Axion 8 CMATIC tractors use FPT’s NEF 6.7 and the Axion 9 uses FPT’s Cursor 9 (8.7 L). The Arion 5 and Arion 6 CMATIC use John Deere Power Systems PowerTech engines of 4.5 L and 6.8 L. Older models can differ.
What is CLAAS WebTIC?
WebTIC is one of CLAAS’s service applications. Independent workshops can buy a WebTIC license through the CLAAS RMI portal, alongside WebSi and the PartsDoc parts catalog.
Does CLAAS Remote Service share my yield data?
No, according to CLAAS. It sends data on the machine’s condition, performance, diagnostics and operating conditions to your service partner, not yield data. You decide whether to use it when you buy the machine.
